Information
The CrazySocks4Docs movement came out of the responses that the founder Dr Geoff Toogood experienced when he happened to wear odd-coloured socks to work in Melbourne, Australia.
The talk behind his back was that he was failing again. In reality he was well, and his socks (apart from the last two odd socks that he was wearing that day) had all been eaten by his new puppy.
Rather than start a discussion about whether he was okay, there was whispering behind the scenes. As a result of this experience, Geoff established Crazysocks4docs Day as an attempt to address the stigma around mental health in doctors, and to make it okay for a Doctor not to be okay.
We’re bringing Socs4Docs day to this side of the Pacific! On Friday, June 7th (the first Friday in June), be sure to wear colourful, mismatched socks to shine a light on the importance of physician mental health, and to show your support for your colleagues who are okay, not okay, or anywhere in between.
We’ll have muffins in the Doctors’ Lounges at RJH and VGH to help you start your day off right…and for photo ops with your colleagues and your awesome socks!
