2021 South Island MSA Award for Collaborative Leadership

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be recognizing those who received South Island MSA Recognition Awards at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

We are delighted to recognize two separate examples of Collaborative Leadership, where members of the medical staff have partnered with the Health Authority and other organizations to lead change

Dr. Alicia Power provided a generous nomination for Dr. Hayley Bos.

During her tenure as Island Health’s Medical Director for Maternity Care, Hayley’s impact has been broad:  From championing inclusion to re-establishing Port Hardy as a maternity site, her focus on advancing the care of parents and babies has been unwavering.  It is thanks to Hayley that you will see ‘Women’s Health’ on Island Health organizational charts.

Especially noteworthy is the work that Hayley led during COVID:  as described, “We never stopped maternity visitors, but aimed for a just, trauma informed visitor policy.  We supported our doulas for early access to vaccines; We advocated provincially that pregnancy was not an exclusion to vaccine in this province.”

We thank Dr. Bos for her leadership, vision, and perseverance, and are pleased to present her with this Award for Collaborative Leadership.
