Do you want to learn how to make a meaningful difference in your colleagues’ lives, develop your communication skills, and help foster a culture of caring? Get trained as a peer supporter and join the Greater Victoria Peer Support Program!
The program provides short-term, one-on-one peer support. Our peer supporters offer a confidential, non-judgmental ear and non-clinical support to their fellow doctors.
The next round of remunerated one-day training through the Physician Health Program will be in November. We’re looking for Greater Victoria physicians who would like to upskill and join the peer support team.
Why Become a peer supporter?
- Professional growth: Enhance your listening and communication skills, which are valuable in all aspects of your medical career.
- Empower others: Play a crucial role in empowering your colleagues to overcome challenges and maintain their well-being.
- Community-building: Foster a supportive and connected medical community in the Greater Victoria area.
- Prevent burnout: Help reduce burnout and promote mental health among your peers by offering timely support.
- Personal fulfillment: Experience the rewarding feeling of making a positive impact on someone’s life and career.
- Leadership opportunities: Develop leadership skills by taking on a supportive role within the medical community.
- Contribute to a culture of care: Be part of a movement that prioritizes mental health and well-being in the healthcare profession.
- Experience diversity: Gain insights into the diverse experiences and challenges faced by different physicians, broadening your perspective.
If you’re passionate about supporting your colleagues through life’s challenges, we’d love to have you on board.
Ready to make a difference? Contact peersupport@southislandmsa.ca to sign up for the next round of training. The date will be determined via poll amongst all interested physicians.
