WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW On April 27, 2022, Island Health medical staff (physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners as well as their learners) will have the ability to select their authored clinical notes for release to patients who are enrolled in the MyHealth patient portal. The 12 clinical note types available for release in phase one are shown below:
BACKGROUND & MORE INFORMATION Medical staff and their learners will have the choice to release/not release their notes to the MyHealth portal. This applies to self-authored and dictated/transcribed notes. Island Health medical leadership strongly encourages medical staff to release documents to MyHealth. These documents, once signed by the author or system (in the case of transcribed documents), will have an eight-hour delay before they are released to MyHealth. This delay allows for reflection on whether the note needs to be amended in order for it to meet the best practices for patient-centred documentation. The MyHealth patient portal is a secure, online platform that provides patients/clients with access to their own personal health information and allows them to participate in a more informed way in their health care. The portal continues to evolve as new functionality and features are added. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO Complete the 30-minute course: Best Practices in Patient-Centred Clinical Documentation A 30-minute online education course, now available on the LearningHub platform, will prepare you for creating MyHealth released notes through the review of best practices for patient-centred clinical documentation.
